Systems installed below or in the surface that cause light snow or ice to melt or prevents it from forming. Commonly these systems utilize liquids to circulate geothermal and/or externally generated heat to the surface through a series of pipes and pumps. Less common systems include solar and conductive materials or the use of electricity to power embedded heating cables or mats.
